Peaceable Kingdom

When anyone asked my father, “How are you?” he often replied, “Waiting for the good news.” And what would that be? The Second Coming? Not likely. I was only twice with my father in church, and never once saw him open a Bible. He was a pacific, kindhearted, good-natured man but utterly indifferent to religion. I believe my father longed for a Peaceable Kingdom, where the wolf and the lamb … the leopard and kid … the calf and lion … where all will live together … led by a child, peace and harmony will prevail* … that will be good news for all!
