Change

My father was born before the Wright Brothers flew their airplane at Kitty Hawk … my mother six years later. The world kept changing and they kept up, best they could. I was in high school when my mom and dad went to McDonald’s for the first time. They told me all about it … how they had to pay first … wait at the counter … carry their trays to the table … everything wrapped in paper … no tipping … no plates. I recall fondly their befuddlement at their changing world … and feel my own bewilderment today, in a world I don’t seem to know.
