Monsters

I have a great-nephew whom I’ve never met. Tristram is six. His mother wrote that Tristram is obsessed with monsters. Would I write to him? I pulled my typewriter around, rolled paper and wrote … more than once. I’ve told Tristram a few things about his great-uncle and sent him photographs of his forebears. I’ve told Tristram about my life, particularly about being a deacon. As for monsters, I’ve taken to sending Tristram photographs of gargoyles. Monsters in appearance, gargoyles were spiritual guardians of the ancient church, sentries to protect the church and the church’s people from dark powers.
