David
David lived a few doors down from us. Sometimes, I found yard work for him to do though he required some supervision. Even raking leaves, David had trouble staying on task. One day, our neighbor Ellie came by and chatted with David. He was supposed to be pulling weeds but had a handful of zinnias. Before long, David was helping Ellie and they got along terrifically. David needed the work. Ellie needed the help. I felt a tinge of envy, maybe even pique, Ellie having stolen my right-hand man, but it’s for the best and I let it slide.
