Did you ever know anyone famous? Not just be in the same room but have them speak to you? I have. Frederick Buechner, American writer, novelist, poet, autobiographer, essayist, preacher, theologian and ordained Presbyterian minister, was a teacher at a boarding school where I spent some time. Buechner once sought me out to tell me, “Turn down your stereo!” I could barely hear him. A few years later, after our admittedly brief encounter, Fred Buechner wrote this: “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” Those words I heard.
